11th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus said: “What can we say the Kingdom of God is like?” We all have our own ideas of what the Kingdom of God is like and because of that we need to listen carefully to what Jesus says about it because he is the only one who does know! In the two parables today he tells us first of all that it is God’s kingdom. God is at work in us and around us all the time even when we are not attentive to him. He also tells us that the small things are the key to the growth of God’s kingdom. These have a very important message for us in our main relationships of faith, hope and love in marriage, family life and our faith community. God is present in all of these, working to bring us to maturity. Our contribution is to be found in the small things of love – giving time to one another; showing affection to one another; affirming one another; forgiving one another etc. We are standing on holy ground!

Reflection ~ How can I tell of such love to me?

You made me in your image and hold me in the palm of your hand,
your cords of love, strong and fragile as silk bind me and hold me.
Rich cords, to family and friends, music and laughter echoing in memories,
light dancing on the water, hills rejoicing.
Cords that found me hiding behind carefully built walls and led me out,
love that heard my heart break and despair and rescued me,
love that overcame my fears and doubts and released me.
The questions and burdens I carry you take, to leave my hands free-
to hold yours, and others, free to follow your cords as they move and
swirl in the breeze, free to be caught up in the dance of your love,
finding myself in surrendering to you.
How can I tell of such love? How can I give to such love?

Launch of Webcam ‘Coffee Morning’ on Saturday 23rd June from 10.30am – 1pm in St Michael’s Parish Centre. Cameras have been installed and appropriate permissions obtained for daily & Sunday liturgies to be viewed worldwide by live stream over the Internet via a link on the Parish website. This will be particularly beneficial for patients in the new South West Acute Hospital where a dedicated channel will soon be made available on room televisions for patients to view Mass and Eucharistic Adoration as well as other liturgies. The service will be further extended to the Nursing Homes and via broadband and set top boxes. Parishioners who have broadband/ internet access may also access all broadcasts on their computers or by a set top box costing £99. This will be explained at the launch. The Knights of St Columbanus have been supporting the development of this project and would invite you to a live demonstration of the WEBCAM at the Coffee Morning. Proceeds to help fund the project.
