Reflection

The Gospel calls us to work for social justice and peace. Jesus drives home the dangers of inequality in the distribution of wealth. The rich man’s punishment is not due simply to his being rich, but rather to his indifference to the poor man who lay hungry at the gate of his house. Luxury and holiness are rarely found together.

By knowing Christ more deeply in our lives we become more sensitive to this call to justice and therefore become more compassionate to people. We should share the good things we have just as we are obliged to try to share our faith in Christ through the manner in which we live our lives.
