Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reflection - Martha and Mary

Jesus visits the house of Martha and Mary. Martha busies herself with the serving while Mary puts herself at the feet of Jesus and listens to him speaking. Martha is irked by her sister’s failure of help but Jesus tells Martha that Mary has taken the better part and that it is not to be taken from her. For us, this Gospel is an invitation to set down patterns in our lives where, we too, like Mary, choose the better part. On a practical level, that involves creating space each day for quality time with God through prayer. In the silence of this encounter with Him, God speaks to each of us. Through time and perseverance we learn to listen to Him and attune ourselves to His voice.

Since the number of Masses available for anniversaries is limited we earnestly ask people to think of others when booking Anniversaries. For family members who are dead a number of years, we suggest one Anniversary Mass for all under the title ‘deceased members of the ……family’. The minimum stipend for an Anniversary Mass is £10.00.

- Friday evening Mass at 7.30 pm is reserved for first anniversaries; Saturday evening Vigil Mass is reserved for Month’s Mind Masses.
