Sunday 13th April 2008 - Fourth Sunday of Easter

Christ, our Way to new life

"I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." You couldn't get a clearer statement of intent and desire than that from anyone. The practice of our faith is about making that desire of Jesus a reality for one another. That's why he gave us his commandment to love one another. The fulfillment of that longing should be our aim in all that we do. It is the major task for every married couple, to help this other person to come to the greatest fulfillment of her/his potential. And if parents want to know what their parenting is about they have a true statement of it in this word of Christ. Parenting is not about what they give to their children but what they help their children to become as individuals. It is also a word for every parish community this week. We dare not settle for anything less than the best.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Reflection Year of Vocation – 13th April 2008 – 3rdMay 2009
This Sunday is known as Good Shepherd Sunday or Vocations Sunday, we pray in a special way for vocations. It also sees the start of the Year of Vocation which runs until next Vocations Sunday – 3rd May 2009. During this year we will pray for all vocations: those who are married, those who are single and those living lives of celibacy and we ask for the grace to follow our own vocation. It seeks to renew the fundamental call of every baptised person to follow Christ and his power to renew and transform. The year will seek to teach the meaning of witness in the 21st Century. The year of Vocation calls on all of us to be a community of people who believe in the God of Jesus Christ and who commit themselves to implement in the world the commandment of charity which he left them. An important feature of the year will be the promotion of the priesthood and religious life with the hope that a greater number of young people will reflect more deeply on these important vocations as life choices.
