Reflection - Corpus Christi
The origins of the feast of Corpus Christi can be
traced back to a vision of St Juliana, who was born
near Liège, Belgium in 1193. In her vision,
she saw the full moon, whose brightness was disfigured
by a single spot. Through prayer, she came to realise
that the ‘single spot’ signified the absence
of a particular feast that the Lord desired to see
instituted by his Church: the Feast of Corpus Christi.
Three reasons were communicated to St Juliana for
this feast. First, that faith in this Sacrament would
be promoted; second, that the faithful would be strengthened
on their way to virtue through adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament; and thirdly, that because of this feast,
reparation would be made for the lack of reverence
and devotion shown to the Blessed Sacrament. It is
good to reacquaint ourselves with these the underlying
reasons behind the feast. May they draw us to Jesus
in the Blessed Sacrament in a spirit of adoration
and reparation. It is there, before him, that we will
receive all that we truly need for our lives. It is
there, before him, that we experience God’s
Peace.
Deaths - We pray for the recently
deceased:
Bridget McMahon, Irvinestown;
James Lunny, 108 Derrin Road and
Graan Abbey;
Theresa Dolan, Marlbank;

Jed Leahy, Middlesborough, England.
May they rest in peace.
