Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reflection

We are told in the Gospel that when the time came for Jesus to be taken up to heaven, He resolutely took the road to Jerusalem. As He travelled along, He encountered people who were interested in following Him for each of them there was a precondition: ‘I will follow but first let me say good-bye to people at home’ or ‘I will follow but first let me go and bury my father’. In his response, Jesus makes it clear that we should not put anything before His summons to His kingdom. He calls us to live in a new way, a higher way and the present moment is always the right moment to respond to His invitation. His words challenge us to let go of the things in our lives that we often put in front of our relationship with Him. God calls us to put His kingdom first in our lives. We are to love Him above all.

Fr Brendan says ‘Thanks’
On behalf of my family and I, I wish to offer my sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of you for celebrating with us ’25 years of priesthood’. The Mass of Thanksgiving and the celebrations in Mount Lourdes was a beautiful occasion. I say thank you to all who prepared for, took part in and shared in the celebrations. Thanks to Helen Hamill, the Senior Choir, the Soloists and all who helped to celebrate the Liturgy.

I say thank you to Fr Noel and the organising committee, the staff and pupils from Mount Lourdes and St Michael’s who provided a feast of food and entertainment.

Thank you to everyone for your good wishes, your generosity and your kindness to me. A special thank you for the beautiful gift of ‘St Brendan’s Boat’, it is a treasure for life.
May this time of celebration bring blessings to all of us.

Anniversary Masses
The Anniversary Diary for 2008 will be available in the Parish Office this Tuesday 3rd July.
Since the number of Masses available for anniversaries is limited we earnestly ask people to think of others when booking Anniversaries. For family members who are dead a number of years, we suggest one Anniversary Mass for all under the title ‘all deceased members of the ……family’. The minimum stipend for an Anniversary Mass is £10.00.

Friday evening Mass at 7.30 pm is reserved for first anniversaries; Saturday evening Vigil Mass is reserved for Month’s Mind Masses.

There is a strong tradition of all members of a family attending Anniversary Masses. Please keep this up.
